Advanced Centre for Biliary Stricture Surgery

Comprehensive Surgical Care for Bile Duct Narrowing

Biliary strictures refer to abnormal narrowing of the bile ducts, which can be benign (due to injury, inflammation, or previous surgery) or malignant (caused by cancer). These strictures can obstruct bile flow, leading to jaundice, infection, and liver damage if not treated promptly.

Our centre offers advanced diagnostic evaluation and precision-based surgical management to restore bile flow, relieve symptoms, and prevent long-term complications. We provide individualized treatment plans supported by a multidisciplinary hepatobiliary team.

Biliary Stricture Surgical Consultation

Patients may present with jaundice, itching, abdominal pain, fever, or recurrent infections (cholangitis).

During consultation, our specialists perform:

  • Detailed clinical evaluation

  • Liver function tests

  • Ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI with MRCP

  • Endoscopic evaluation (ERCP) if required

  • Biopsy or brush cytology when malignancy is suspected

Treatment depends on the cause and severity. Options may include reconstructive biliary surgery, bile duct resection, hepaticojejunostomy, or cancer-directed surgery when indicated.

Our goal is complete relief of obstruction while preserving liver function.

When Is Surgery Recommended?

In Benign Biliary Strictures:
  • Persistent obstruction despite endoscopic stenting

  • Recurrent cholangitis

  • Post-surgical bile duct injury

  • Progressive liver dysfunction

In Malignant Biliary Strictures:
  • Confirmed bile duct cancer

  • Tumor causing obstructive jaundice

  • Failed or unsuitable endoscopic drainage

  • Potentially resectable malignancy

Our Focus

  • Accurate differentiation between benign and malignant strictures

  • Advanced hepatobiliary surgical techniques

  • Minimally invasive approaches when feasible

  • Restoration of bile flow and prevention of liver damage

  • Integrated oncology care for malignant cases

  • Structured long-term follow-up
